Interactive Church Training
9 years ago, I tried to attend a church with my children and was asked to leave. I was told I was welcome to come back when my children had a sitter at home. I didn't only see the need, I lived it. So, when we moved back to Kansas God called me to build a special needs ministry from the ground up in our church. We are a small church with approx. 100 attendees on a Sunday morning. There really is no place too small to successfully welcome children and adults with disabilities.
The bible is clear: "Go therefore and make disciples," but how? How do we make beauty out of all this brokenness. The special needs community is a mission's field in our back yard. 1 in 4 people will experience a disability in their lifetime. Each of those people have family who are also taking note on how the church reacts to disability. Are we like the world, or different. 9/10 disabled persons will not attend a church. Together we can be part of the solution.

Becoming Enabled is the churches first step towards becoming that which God called us as the church to be—welcoming, inclusive, and united. Your church can be accessible. I know, over the last 6 years our church has been on this very journey, and I have been blessed to be used by God to help make our church accessible. We are a small church, with a modest budget, and I can tell you no matter your size, it can be done. In this book I include much of the knowledge I have gained through 6 years of trial, error, and success. I will share stories, tricks, tips and answer some of the questions I know that burn inside of our minds as ministry leaders:

The church is often, and unintentionally, not disability friendly. We speak of healing but miss the good works God does in the waiting. We forget that God’s grace is sufficient. And because of this, we as THE Church are disabling ourselves. As a Pastor I would say it is by far time for us to change that.
After all, the mandate is clear, “Go therefore and make disciples.” Will you go with me?
